Since we have loyal customers from all over the world, not just Maine, we thought it would be fun to share a little background on the names of some of our most popular products. We are kicking off this series with Penobscot.

Penobscot is a county in east-central Maine. The Penobscot river, the longest in the state at 350 miles, runs almost entirely through the county.

Orono, a city in Penobscot county, is home to the University of Maine campus.

Perhaps most interestingly though, is how the county got its name. Formed in 1816 the name Penobscot was derived from an Abenaki Indian word meaning "rocky place". Today the county is still home to the Penobscot Indian Tribe.
