Freeport, Maine, home of our flagship location, may still be relatively new to us but our building has been a part of the community for over 200 years. The house our store now resides in was built in 1779 by Dr. John Hyde. Several years later, Hyde sold the home to Captain Samuel Jameson. Jameson then turned the building into a Tavern/Inn for travelers who made the long stage coach trip from Bangor to Boston. Coined as the "Birthplace of Maine," The Tavern was well know for its good food and comfortable beds. To this day, the Jameson Tavern still exists as a restaurant and continue to be our neighbors! (You can find an even further extensive history of our building here on the Tavern's website.) It's fitting that our flagship location should find residence in such a beautiful location; Brahms Mount is bringing back the comfort of textiles to travelers who stop in from all over the world!
